If you contribute to Nepal's Social Security Fund, you can use the official Contributor Portal to check contribution history, pension and retirement amounts, update KYC, submit claims, review loans, and manage certain services after leaving employment. The portal is not one simple savings account with a single balance figure; it separates your money into categories like total contribution months, pension amount, retirement amount, claims and loan details, and understanding that separation is the fastest way to actually find what you're looking for.

This guide walks through the Contributor Portal the way it is actually organized today, not the way older explainers describe it. Where a number, limit or rule could plausibly have changed since this was last checked, we say so directly rather than presenting it as permanent.

What Is Social Security Fund Nepal?

The Social Security Fund, established under the Contribution Based Social Security Act, is the government body that collects compulsory contributions from formal-sector employers and employees and pays out defined benefits: medical and health protection, accident and disability protection, dependent family protection, and old-age pension. Employers register their organization and employees through the Employer Portal; contributors then get their own Contributor Portal login to manage their own account. Beyond the formal private sector, SSF also runs separate registration paths for the informal sector, self-employed contributors, and Nepalis in foreign employment, each with its own contribution mechanics rather than one universal rate for everyone.

How to Login to the SSF Contributor Portal

Direct answer: Go to the Contributor Login page on the official portal, enter your SSID and password, and click Login. If you don't remember your password, use the Reset Password option on the same page.
  1. Open the official Contributor Login page.
  2. Enter your SSID.
  3. Enter your password.
  4. Click Login.
  5. If login fails, use Reset Password rather than repeatedly guessing.

What Is an SSID?

Your SSID is your unique Social Security identification number as a contributor. The live login page states directly that a contributor SSID begins with the digit 2, shown in the example format 20*********. It stays the same even if you change jobs; a new employer adds you to their organization using your existing SSID rather than issuing you a new one. Do not confuse your SSID with your citizenship number, PAN, or your employer's internal employee ID; they are separate numbers issued by separate systems.

How to Check SSF Balance and Contributions

Direct answer: There is no single "SSF balance." Log in to the Contributor Portal and check the Dashboard for contribution months and deposited amount, then use Reports → Contributor Statement for a detailed, date-filtered breakdown by scheme.

The Dashboard is the first screen you see after logging in, and it shows how many months you have contributed and how much has been deposited overall. But several other figures live in different places, and treating any single one of them as "my SSF balance" leads to confusion:

Total contribution months: how many months have been recorded, shown on the Dashboard
Pension amount: the portion tracked toward your old-age pension scheme
Retirement amount: gratuity and related amounts tracked separately from the pension figure
Return amount: investment return credited to eligible balances
Claims: amounts already claimed and paid out, tracked separately from what remains
Last contribution: the most recent deposit recorded against your account
Loan balance: outstanding amount if you have an active SSF loan

Check Contribution History

For a detailed history rather than a single dashboard snapshot, use Reports → Contributor Statement. It lets you view which scheme received how much and how much has been claimed and paid out. Leaving the From Date and To Date fields blank and clicking View shows the current fiscal year; setting specific dates lets you check a particular period, such as a single month you're trying to verify.

How to Check Whether Your Employer Deposited SSF

Direct answer: Compare your Contributor Statement's most recent contribution month against your salary slip's SSF deduction. If the month is missing, allow reasonable posting time before assuming it wasn't deposited, then contact your employer if it still doesn't appear.

Employers don't always deposit contributions the instant they deduct them from your salary; there is typically a short reporting and posting lag on the SSF side. Before concluding a contribution is genuinely missing, check three things: the contribution month shown in your Contributor Statement, the amount your latest salary slip shows as deducted, and whether enough time has passed since payday for that specific month's deposit to post.

Example

If your salary slip shows an SSF deduction for Baisakh but the portal does not yet show the corresponding contribution, first confirm the reporting and deposit timing rather than assuming the amount is missing. Employers commonly deposit a given month's contribution sometime after that month closes, not on the exact payday. If a reasonable posting window has passed and the deposit still hasn't appeared, ask your payroll or HR contact directly, and if that doesn't resolve it, escalate to SSF's reconciliation support. Do not assume misconduct before checking timing.

SSF Contribution Rate in Nepal

Direct answer: The commonly published formal-sector rate is 11% of basic remuneration from the employee and 20% from the employer, totalling 31%. Confirm this against your own current payslip or the portal, since contribution rates are set by regulation and can be revised.
ContributorPercentage
Employee (commonly reported as 10% pension + 1% social security tax)11%
Employer (commonly reported as 10% pension + 8.33% gratuity + 1.67% other schemes)20%
Total31%

Widely and consistently reported across payroll and HR references as of this writing. Not copied from a single unverified source; still, confirm against your own current payslip before relying on it for planning.

The combined 31% is distributed across SSF's schemes: primarily the old-age pension scheme, plus gratuity, and the medical, accident/disability and dependent-family protection schemes on the employer side. The contribution is calculated on basic remuneration, not your full gross salary, so how your employer splits your pay between "basic" and allowances directly affects your actual contribution amount.

Contribution rates verified: 8 August 2026.

Example SSF Contribution Calculation

Illustrative example using the current commonly reported rate:

  • Basic remuneration: NPR 40,000
  • Employee contribution (11%): NPR 4,400
  • Employer contribution (20%): NPR 8,000
  • Total SSF contribution: NPR 12,400

Illustrative example using the current verified rate. This uses basic remuneration, not total take-home salary; if your pay structure has a large allowance component on top of a smaller basic figure, your actual SSF contribution will be lower than 31% of your total gross pay.

How to Complete or Update SSF KYC

Direct answer: Log in to the Contributor Portal, open the KYC menu, fill in your personal, address, document and nominee details, and submit. Verification with SSF only begins after you submit the form, not while you're still editing it.

The KYC menu is where you correct and complete your official record. Fields typically requested include your personal details, current address, identity documents, nominee or dependent information, and, where relevant, bank account details, since your bank details are what SSF uses to pay out withdrawals and certain claims. Photographs and document scans should be clear and fully legible; blurry uploads are one of the most common causes of delay. Confirm the exact current field list inside the portal before you start, since SSF can add or adjust required fields over time.

SSF KYC Pending or Rejected

ProblemWhat to Check
Name mismatchCompare against your citizenship or other official record
Date of birth mismatchConfirm which source document SSF expects
Citizenship details unclearRe-upload a fully readable scan
Bank detail issueRecheck account number and account holder name
Mobile or email mismatchUpdate to your current, accessible contact details
KYC stuck pendingAllow processing time, then check the portal or contact KYC support
Document rejectedRead the stated rejection reason and resubmit correctly

Do not alter factual information on your documents just to get an application approved faster. If your record genuinely differs from your citizenship or other official documents, that discrepancy needs to be resolved through the correct legal or administrative channel, not worked around in the KYC form.

SSF KYC Contact and Support

The official SSF contact list publishes a dedicated email specifically for KYC issues: kyc@ssf.gov.np. Beyond email, the general toll-free number (1116, NTC/NCELL) and call center number can route you to the right desk if you're unsure where a specific problem belongs.

What Benefits Does SSF Nepal Provide?

Direct answer: SSF's formal-sector scheme is organized into four benefit areas: medical treatment and maternity protection, accident and disability protection, dependent family protection, and old-age pension. Each has its own eligibility period, documentation and limits.
Medical Treatment / Health Security: inpatient and outpatient treatment cover, plus maternity-related allowances
Accident and Disability Protection: work-related accident cover, temporary and permanent disability benefits
Dependent Family Protection: pension and support for a deceased contributor's spouse, children and dependents
Old-Age / Retirement / Pension Benefits: lifelong monthly pension or lump sum depending on your contribution period

Never assume a benefit amount or eligibility period from a previous fiscal year still applies; scheme documents are updated periodically, so confirm current figures before making a financial decision around them.

SSF Medical Benefits

Commonly reported terms for the medical and health security scheme include a minimum contribution period, often cited around three months, before a claim becomes eligible, coverage for inpatient (hospitalization) treatment up to a published annual limit, a smaller sub-limit for outpatient treatment within that same annual cap, and treatment at SSF-affiliated hospitals, which are listed on an interactive map on the official site by province and district. Work-related accidents and occupational injuries are generally treated more generously than non-work-related ones, which typically carry their own separate, lower annual cap. Direct billing at an affiliated hospital and after-the-fact reimbursement are both used depending on the hospital and situation. Confirm the current published limits directly with SSF or your affiliated hospital before relying on a specific number, since these figures are exactly the kind of detail that gets revised.

How to File an SSF Medical Claim

  1. Confirm your eligibility, including your minimum contribution period.
  2. Collect the required medical documents for your treatment.
  3. Use the affiliated-hospital process where applicable, or prepare for reimbursement if not.
  4. Open Claim Application in the Contributor Portal.
  5. Get a submission number first, then select the correct scheme and sub-scheme.
  6. Fill in the required details and upload supporting documents.
  7. Submit and keep your submission number.
  8. Track status in the portal or contact claims support if it stalls.

Do not promise yourself or anyone else a guaranteed reimbursement amount before SSF actually processes the claim; eligibility and documentation determine the outcome, not intent.

Accident and Disability Benefits

SSF separates accident-related benefits by severity rather than treating "accident" as one flat category:

Injuries connected to your work are generally treated more favorably than accidents unrelated to employment, both for treatment cost coverage and for any resulting disability benefit.

Temporary Disability

Contributors unable to work due to a qualifying temporary disability commonly receive a monthly payment calculated as a percentage of basic salary while the disability lasts, subject to current scheme rules and medical assessment.

Permanent Disability

Where a disability is assessed as permanent, the benefit can convert into a longer-term or lifelong monthly payment rather than a temporary one, again subject to current assessment criteria. Do not rely on this page for the exact current percentage or duration; confirm the specific figures with SSF or a claims specialist for your case, since disability benefit calculations depend on individual medical assessment.

Dependent Family Benefits

If a contributor dies, SSF's dependent family protection scheme is designed to support the people who depended on them financially, commonly covering:

Spouse: a pension for the surviving spouse, typically subject to conditions such as not remarrying
Children: an education-related allowance for dependent children, generally until a defined age
Parents/other dependents: support where the scheme's dependent definition applies

A funeral-related lump sum is also commonly reported as part of this scheme. Every specific benefit amount or percentage in this area should be verified against SSF's current scheme document before you rely on it, since these figures affect a family at an already difficult time and deserve to be confirmed rather than assumed.

SSF Pension and Retirement Benefits

Direct answer: Your dashboard shows a Pension Amount and a Retirement Amount as separate figures, not one balance. Commonly published rules require age 60 and at least 180 months (15 years) of contribution for a lifelong monthly pension; fewer months at age 60 typically results in a lump sum instead.

Don't casually call both of these "your SSF balance." The Pension Amount is tracked toward the old-age pension scheme and, if you meet the age and contribution-period requirements, is what converts into a monthly lifelong payment. The Retirement Amount generally reflects gratuity and related amounts, handled somewhat differently depending on when you started contributing. Contributors who started before a specific cutoff date had an option to transfer their pension amount into the retirement/gratuity amount when withdrawing; contributors who started after that cutoff generally do not have that transfer option and can only withdraw the retirement amount as such. Confirm which category applies to you directly in the portal, since this materially changes what you can withdraw and when.

What Happens When You Leave Your Job?

Direct answer: Nothing changes in your portal until your employer marks you as Terminated. After that, an After Employment menu appears with a Withdraw option, but you cannot request withdrawal until you have filled in your bank details under KYC.

Leaving a job does not automatically mean your entire SSF amount becomes withdrawable immediately. The sequence, based on the current portal flow, runs like this: your employer terminates your record from their Employer Portal, which triggers the After Employment menu to appear in your own Contributor Portal. If you don't see that menu, you have likely not yet been marked Terminated, and you should contact your former employer or SSF to have that completed first. Once the menu appears, you must have bank account details filled into your KYC before SSF will process a withdrawal request, since that's the account your money is paid into. From there, you complete a withdrawal request specifying your termination date and, depending on your contribution start date, choosing how much of any eligible transferable amount to withdraw, before submitting for SSF verification.

Can You Continue SSF Contribution Yourself?

Direct answer: Yes, through Self-Contribution. After your employer terminates your record, request Self-Contribution from the Contributor Portal; once SSF verifies the request, a Collection menu appears where you generate a submission number and deposit money yourself.

This keeps your SSF account active and growing even without an employer, useful if you're between jobs, freelancing, or otherwise not currently on a formal payroll. It's a distinct mechanism from the separate informal-sector, self-employed, and foreign-employment registration schemes described later in this guide; those are for people who were never registered as a formal-sector employee in the first place, while self-contribution is specifically for continuing an existing formal-sector record after employment ends.

SSF Loan / Contributor Loan

SSF has offered loan products to contributors who meet a minimum regular-contribution history, commonly reported as around 36 months, and other conditions such as having enough working years left before reaching the applicable retirement age.

Who Can Get an SSF Loan?

Eligibility has generally centered on a minimum period of regular contribution plus meeting the fund's other current conditions. Confirm the exact current threshold before assuming you qualify.

Available Loan Types

Loan products publicly reported by SSF have included home loans, education loans, and social function loans, alongside a newer land loan scheme introduced for eligible contributors. Terms, limits and even whether a given product is currently open to new applicants can change, so treat any specific figure below as a starting reference point, not a guarantee.

Interest and Repayment

SSF's general loan framework has been described as pricing loans at no less than the prevailing market interest rate, while at least one specific scheme has been reported with its own fixed promotional rate. This is not a guaranteed borrowing facility, and approval, amount and terms depend on SSF's current rules and your individual application.

How to Apply

Loan applications are handled through the Contributor Portal's loan application section, where your current loan details, if any, also appear on the dashboard. Start there, and confirm current eligibility, limits and required documents directly with SSF's loan department before making financial plans around a specific amount.

Do not treat this as guaranteed borrowing. Loan availability, limits and interest terms are set by SSF and can change. Confirm everything directly with loan@ssf.gov.np before counting on a specific loan amount for a purchase or commitment.

How to Apply for an SSF Claim

Not every claim works the same way. The portal distinguishes between claims a contributor can submit directly and claims that require additional verification:

Contributor-submitted claims: for example, routine medical or maternity-related claims filed directly through Claim Application
Claims requiring employer or hospital verification: certain employment-related accident or disability claims, which the employer portal shows as requiring an employer recommendation before proceeding

Knowing which category your claim falls into before you start saves time, since a claim needing employer recommendation cannot be completed by the contributor alone, no matter how completely you fill in your own portion.

How to Check SSF Claim Status

Direct answer: Use your submission number on the official Track Submission Number page, or check status directly inside the Contributor Portal. Some claims also wait on employer or hospital verification before status updates further.

Keep your submission number from the moment you file a claim; it's the reference SSF uses to locate your specific application. Status generally moves from submitted, to under verification, to a decision, and finally to payment where approved, though the exact stages you see can vary by claim type. If a claim sits at the same stage for an extended period, that's a reasonable moment to contact claims support directly rather than continuing to wait indefinitely.

SSF Password Reset / Account Recovery

The current Contributor Login page includes a Reset Password option built around mobile or email OTP verification.

  1. On the Contributor Login page, choose Reset/Recover Password.
  2. Select whether to receive your OTP by mobile or email.
  3. Enter your registered mobile number or email address.
  4. Receive your OTP.
  5. Enter and verify the OTP.
  6. Set a new password.

If your registered phone number is no longer active or you can no longer access the registered email, you generally can't self-serve the OTP step; contact SSF's IT support so they can help you regain access after confirming your identity through another channel.

SSF OTP Not Received

Confirm the mobile number or email actually registered on your KYC
Check for network delay or, for email, a spam or junk folder
Recheck for a typo in the number or address you entered
Wait before repeatedly requesting a new OTP, since rapid repeat requests can trigger a temporary cooldown
Consider it may be a temporary system issue and try again later

Never look for or accept an "OTP bypass." If OTP delivery is genuinely broken on SSF's side, IT support is the correct escalation path, not a workaround.

SSF Portal Not Showing Contribution

  1. Check the latest contribution date shown in your Contributor Statement.
  2. Review the full contribution report for the relevant period.
  3. Compare it against your employer's payroll or salary slip records.
  4. Allow a reasonable posting and reconciliation window before assuming it's missing.
  5. Ask your employer or payroll contact directly if it still hasn't appeared.
  6. Contact SSF's reconciliation support if the issue remains unresolved.

The official site publishes a dedicated reconciliation contact, reconcsupport@ssf.gov.np, specifically for this kind of employer-deposit mismatch.

SSF Contribution Statement for Tax

If you need a statement of your SSF contributions for tax purposes, the official SSF portal provides a dedicated request page, and a specific contact email is published for tax-related statements: tax@ssf.gov.np. Use this official channel rather than assuming a generic Contributor Statement printout will automatically satisfy tax documentation requirements; confirm with the office requesting the statement, whether that's the Inland Revenue Department or an employer, what format they actually need.

SSF for Nepalis Working Abroad

SSF maintains a separate track for contributors in foreign employment, with its own dedicated contact channels distinct from the general contributor support lines: a WhatsApp and Viber number and a specific migrant-worker email address, migrantworker@ssf.gov.np. This track covers registration and contribution for Nepalis working overseas, continuation of contributions while abroad, and claims support suited to a contributor who may not be able to visit an office in person. Do not assume migrant-worker contribution rules are the same as the formal-sector employee percentages described earlier on this page; they run through a different registration and collection mechanism, described further in the comparison below.

Formal vs Informal vs Foreign Employment SSF

SchemeWho It Is ForContribution BasisKey Benefits
Formal sectorEmployees of registered employers31% of basic remuneration (11% employee + 20% employer), split across schemesAll four benefit pillars: medical/maternity, accident/disability, dependent family, old-age pension
Informal sectorWorkers without one continuous formal employerReported schemes and rates vary; confirm the current basis before assuming a fixed percentageSame four benefit pillars, under informal-sector scheme rules
Self-employedBusiness owners, freelancers, professionals without an employerVoluntary enrollment on a declared notional monthly salary; contributor generally pays the full combined rate since there is no employer shareSame four benefit pillars, sized to the declared notional salary
Foreign employmentNepali migrant workers abroadDedicated foreign-employment registration and collection process, separate from formal-sector payroll percentagesRetirement-linked and other benefits under the foreign-employment scheme

Applying formal-sector percentages to an informal, self-employed or foreign-employment registration is a common and avoidable mistake; confirm which scheme you're actually registered under before doing your own math.

SSF Mobile App

The official SSF website links directly to an Android app on Google Play and an iOS app on the Apple App Store, both published under SSF's own developer listing. Before relying on the app for anything sensitive, confirm inside the app store listing itself that the publisher matches SSF and that the listing is current, and never download an "SSF" APK from a third-party website instead of the official store link. Functions available in the app can lag behind the full web portal, so for detailed KYC edits or claim submissions, the Contributor Portal in a browser remains the more complete option as of this writing.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I check my SSF balance in Nepal?
Log in to the Contributor Portal with your SSID and password, then open the Dashboard, where your contribution months and deposited amounts are shown. Separate figures for pension amount, retirement amount and claims appear under Reports and Contributor Statement rather than one single balance.
How do I check my SSF contribution?
Use the Contributor Statement under the Reports menu in the Contributor Portal. It shows how much has been deposited into each scheme and over what date range, and you can filter by From Date and To Date to check a specific month.
What is an SSID?
SSID is your unique Social Security identification number as a contributor. The current login page confirms it begins with the digit 2, shown in the example format 20*********. It is not the same as your citizenship number, PAN or employee ID.
How do I login to SSF?
Go to the Contributor Login page on the official portal and enter your SSID and password. Your employer registers you and your SSID is issued once your registration is verified.
How do I reset my SSF password?
On the Contributor Login page, use the Reset Password option. The current portal verifies you through an OTP sent to your registered mobile number or email before letting you set a new password.
How do I update KYC?
Log in to the Contributor Portal and open the KYC menu, then fill in your personal details, address, documents and nominee or dependent information and submit. Your KYC only goes to SSF for verification after you submit it.
Why is my KYC pending?
KYC stays pending until SSF completes verification, which takes some processing time after submission. If it is rejected rather than pending, check the rejection reason shown in the portal and resubmit corrected, readable documents rather than altering factual details.
What is the SSF contribution rate?
The commonly published formal-sector rate is 11% of basic remuneration from the employee and 20% from the employer, for a combined 31%. Confirm the current rate on your own payslip or the portal before relying on it for planning, since rates can change.
How much does my employer contribute?
The commonly published employer share is 20% of basic remuneration, typically broken down as 10% toward the pension scheme, 8.33% toward gratuity, and 1.67% toward other schemes. Confirm the current figures directly since the breakdown can be revised.
What benefits does SSF provide?
SSF's formal-sector scheme is generally organized into medical treatment and maternity protection, accident and disability protection, dependent family protection, and old-age pension. Each has its own eligibility period, claim process and limits.
How do I claim medical expenses?
Get a Submission Number, then open Claim Application in the Contributor Portal, choose the medical and maternity protection scheme and the correct sub-scheme, and submit the required documents. Reimbursement is not automatic or guaranteed; it depends on eligibility and documentation.
How do I check claim status?
Use your submission number to track the claim through the official SSF submission-tracking page, or check status inside the Contributor Portal. Some claims, particularly employment-related accident or disability claims, also require employer or hospital verification before they move forward.
Can I withdraw SSF after leaving a job?
Only after your employer marks you as Terminated in the Employer Portal. Once that happens, the After Employment menu with a Withdraw option appears in your Contributor Portal, and you must have bank details filled in KYC before requesting withdrawal.
Can I continue contributing after leaving employment?
Yes, through Self-Contribution. After your employer terminates your record, you can request to continue contributing yourself from the Contributor Portal; once SSF verifies the request, a Collection menu appears where you generate a submission number and deposit the amount yourself.
How does SSF pension work?
Commonly published rules require reaching age 60 with at least 180 months, or 15 years, of contribution to receive a lifelong monthly pension. Contributors with fewer than 180 months at age 60 generally receive a lump sum instead. Confirm your own case against current rules.
Can I get an SSF loan?
SSF has offered home, education and social function loans to contributors who meet a minimum regular-contribution period, commonly reported as around 36 months, along with other eligibility conditions. Confirm current loan products, limits and interest terms directly with SSF before assuming any figure is still current.
What if my employer did not deposit my contribution?
First check the contribution report and allow reasonable posting time, since deposits are not always visible instantly. If the contribution is still missing after checking your salary slip and giving it time, raise it with your employer, and contact SSF's reconciliation support if it remains unresolved.
How do I get an SSF tax statement?
The official SSF site provides a dedicated tax statement request feature, and a specific contact email is published for tax-related statements. Use the official request channel rather than assuming a generic contribution report will substitute for a tax statement.
Is there an SSF mobile app?
Yes, the official SSF website links to an Android app on Google Play and an iOS app on the Apple App Store. Only use these official store links; do not download an SSF-related APK from an unofficial website.
How do migrant workers contact SSF?
SSF publishes a dedicated WhatsApp and Viber number and a separate email address for contributors in foreign employment, distinct from the general toll-free and call center numbers used for other contributors.
